Fish Creek to Vermilion Valley Resort

This is the guide index page for an amazing alternative route off of the High Sierra Crestline between Reds Meadow and Vermilion Valley Resort.

Though we walk most of the JMT on our route South along the Sierra Crestline, we miss some stunning nearby locations of note. Iva Bell Hot Springs is just such a special place that should not be missed.

Our "standard" JMT route along the Sierra Crestline stays up high and goes around Iva Bell Hot Springs.

We can fix that "slight" omission by breaking off into Fish Valley South of Reds Meadow rather than staying up on .

We could climb back up to the JMT from Iva Bell Hot Springs. The JMT crosses Silver Divide and drops down to Mono Creek to pick up the ferry to Vermilion Valley Resort on the Northeast end of Lake Thomas Edison.

I prefer to climb the other way from Iva Bell Hot Springs to climb the Southwest flank of the Silver Divide up to Goodale Pass. This is a very quiet segment of trail. I have rarely seen anyone out there.
From Goodale Pass we will hike down to Vermilion Valley's front door, rather than take the JMT ferry.

Continuing South from Vermilion Valley we will explore the standard route of the JMT over Bear Ridge as well as the much quieter and more scenic route up Bear Creek.
